How to Get a Domain Name

A domain name - simply put, is the name of your website. For example, Yahoo.com or Yahoo and MommyCommunity.com for Mommy Community. There are several places you can go to online to purchase a domain name for one year or multiple years. Domain name registration is very affordable - prices start at about $8.00 per year.
Here are a couple of tips to help you when buying a domain name:
* Go with .com – domain names that end in .net, for instance, may cost less than domains that end in .com, however, most people are going to remember .com. You could end up losing customers if you have a different ending,
* Make sure to Spell correctly - if you wish to name your site “crafts by Susie” and it’s already taken, don’t misspell words on purpose (example: “crafts by sue-z”). Misspellings are hard for your customers to remember, and if they type in the correct spelling of the domain, you may end up sending them to a competitor’s site.
Once you figure out your domain name, then you are ready to purchase it. You can opt for a public or private registration. Public registrations simply means that it will be visible in the whois.com directory. The whois directory allows people to type in a website and view the owner’s personal identity. If you do not want your personal information shown, select private registration (this will cost q few dollars more).
Figure out the term of your registration (ex. 1,2 or more years) and choose public or private registration. You will then be asked for your billing information and complete your purchase. To watch a video on How to Purchase a domain name using GoDaddy.com, click here.
